Friday Funny :)

Jacob, age 92, and Rebecca, age 89, are all excited about their decision to get married. They go for a stroll to discuss the wedding and on the way they pass a drugstore. Jacob suggests they go in. Jacob addresses the man behind the counter:

'Are you the owner?' The pharmacist answers yes.

Says Jacob: 'We're about to get married. Do you sell heart medication?'

Pharmacist: 'Of course we do.'

Jacob: 'How about medicine for circulation?'
Pharmacist: 'All kinds.'

Jacob: 'Medicine for rheumatism, scoliosis? '

Pharmacist: 'Definitely.'

Jacob: 'How about Viagra?'

Pharmacist: 'Of course.'

Jacob: 'Medicine for memory problems, arthritis, jaundice?'

Pharmacist: 'Yes, a large variety. The works.'

Jacob: 'What about vitamins, sleeping pills, Geritol, antidotes for Parkinson's disease?'

Pharmacist: 'Absolutely.'

Jacob: 'You sell wheelchairs and walkers?'

Pharmacist: 'All speeds and sizes.'

Jacob says to the pharmacist: 'We'd like to register here for our wedding gifts, please.'

Keep Your Guests Cool As A Cucumbers

Here is a useful, lovely and practical suggestion for a destination wedding favor. As a Caribbean wedding planner I know that temperatures can go from sunny and mild to blazing and humid in the blink of an eye. This delicate silk fan will keep your guests as cool as cucumbers while they watch your ceremony and move on to your reception. This stylish wedding fan may also serve as part of your decor by placing the fans on your guests chair or by using them as a stunning place card holder, simply add a place card made of thin paper and weave it through the bamboo stems (not included). Starting at $2.30 each (buy in bulk and the price goes down) what a bargain.

Keeping It Simple...

Many brides ask for my opinion on what to wear in their hair on their wedding day. My motto is

"keep it simple". For example, check out this gorgeous Ficcare Swarovski Crystal headband. It is simple, classy and would work well with an updo. Giving your hair a bit of sparkle.  Get it at Nordstroms.

Shannon & Eric Eloped to Seven Seas Beach, Fajardo, Puerto Rico ~ 9/19/09

I received an e-mail on Monday from Eric and his fiance Shannon, they wanted to make arrangements to elope while they were here in PR on vacation. They would be arriving on Thursday evening and wanted to be married before they went home on Monday. I said "No problem, give me a day to put it together and get back to you!". Although we had a couple of issues it worked out in the end and this is their story.

I am happy to announce the marriage of Eric & Shannon, a lovely, fun, gorgeous and very blessed couple from Santa Fe, New Mexico. They have an absolutely adorable 2 year old son named Ethan Cruz (I saw a picture and when I say adorable I mean really adorable) and they are expecting the arrival of their second angel in March.

My assistant (my husband) and I picked them up at El Conquistador in Fajardo. We drove them over to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, Seven Seas, met up with the officiant, Rev. Aran Santana Gonzalez and officiated a very touching, romantic and meaningful exchange of vows, along with  a sand ceremony.  The most amazing part of the ceremony is that just as they began to exchange their vows an unbelievable rainbow appeared in the sky... just like I ordered :)  And although living on a tropical island I experience rainbows a lot, this rainbow was spectacular, it brought tears to everyones eyes!

Shannon & Eric that extraordinary rainbow was a sign that your marriage is truly blessed and that you will be enjoying a lifetime of health, joy and true happiness. May the joy you felt on your wedding day be with you throughout your marriage.

Fondly,
Your wedding planner,
Lisa

Fun Save-The-Date Suggestions

For most of your guests, a destination wedding means vacation time. So why not set the relaxed vibe right from the get-go? Consider one of these customized save-the-dates, guaranteed to get guests excited about your wedding -- and their upcoming getaway.

For a beach wedding, create a "message in a bottle." Roll up your documents, tie them with a bit of twine or a tiny rope, and put them in a bottle with sand and seashells.

If you're guests are traveling to a luxe links resort or a country club, have golf balls engraved with your personal information. Cut out a tiny square of Astroturf or fake grass and send each in a box with the golf ball on top.

Send postcards from the town where you're holding the affair. For bonus points, send them in one envelope to a local planner, me, who can mail them -- that way, they'll have a destination postmark.

Lay local color over your invites by including exotic greenery, like a banana leaf, or a vellum sheet printed with a historical map of the island or main town.

Send cards that match your formal invites but add a locale-themed twist, like a drawing of a local landmark or an item that represents the destination, for example for Puerto Rico it would be a bottle of rum (just kidding) our island mascot the Coqui frog.

If you have any unique ideas, please share.

Cake Wrecks

One of the funniest e-mails I have ever received is the one about a cake that was ordered from Wal-Mart for a going away party. The woman who ordered it did so over the phone and this is what she said "Best wishes Suzanne, and underneath that, we will miss you". And this is what she picked up at the store.

Well someone (who is extremely clever) figured out that there must be many cakes that have gone array. And so a blog was born... Cake Wrecks, When professional cakes go horribly, hilariously wrong.

There weren't to many wedding cake mistakes, but the ones that are posted will make you laugh out loud! Especially the cake that is a replica of the bride... priceless!

If you are at your desk with nothing to do take a quick look at Cake Wrecks and read commentary that is very witty and can potentially make you spit your water out, stop by, it always makes me chuckle.

Finding The Perfect Signature Drink For Your Reception Just Got Easy...

As most hip & chic brides know, a signature drink is a fun, fashionable way to incorporate your wedding colors into your reception. And with destination weddings, it’s also a great opportunity to bring a bit of the locale’s flavor (for example, rum in Puerto Rico). As I was researching ideas for a unique signature drink, I came across a really cool resource for seeking out the ideal signature drink for your reception. The ABSOLUT Vodka website has an extensive list of drink recipes, searchable by spirit (everything from gin to brandy), drink type (pre-dinner to after-dinner) and, most importantly, by color. Not only is it super easy to find the perfect blue drink for your Puerto Rico wedding, (I'll have a Blue Lagoon please) each drink has a user rating, so you won’t have to waste time on the rejects during your sampling party.

Have you decided on your signature drink?

MY BFF Ellie Moore (NOT) of Weddingbee & Lucky Nest

In my previous post I mentioned the web-site Weddingbee. I get a lot of inspiration from brides pre and post wedding day on that site and I would like to share one bride in particular, her name is Ellie Moore...

I came across Ellie's posts aka Mrs. Lovebug on Weddingbee by chance. But I intentionally kept coming back for more and more on a regular basis. Her snarky sense of humor and wit is so fresh, fun and addicting. And I looked forward to her big day. And when it came and I awaited her post on how it went, once again she did not disappoint, as a matter of fact she surprised and amazed me... I expected the post and pictures to be romantic, picturesque and inspirational - try hilarious, hysterical and flat out outrageous. That was it for me, I would follow her wherever that would lead (can you say stalker), which turned out to be two spots, her personal blog, The Lucky Nest and my worst nightmare Facebook. Well I took a deep breath and asked to be "friended" by her on Facebook and she accepted (WOOOHOOO! I swear we are bff's now). And by chance I got lucky enough to experience those pictures I mentioned earlier the romantic, picturesque and inspirational ones. And I would like to share one in particular with you.

Her wedding bouquet is like no other I have ever seen. It is gorgeous, unique and romantic. The wrap reminds me of a corset. Take a look at it above and read our first bff conversation (can you say loser). Hope it inspires you...

Hi Ellie, I have been a fan of your writing since Wedding Bee and followed you here... I am a destination wedding planner on the island of Puerto Rico and I am always looking for inspiration for my blog posts. Can you tell me a little about the bouquet and the "love corset"? It is absolutely gorgeous! Also, may I post this picture on my blog... www.prweddingplanner.blogspot.com along with the post?

Wishing you and your husband a lifetime of love, joy, peace & laughter!
Felicidades, Lisa Rodriguez

My BFF Ellie said...
Hey Lisa, thanks for the note! You're more than welcome to post the photo, provided you credit/link Chris Richards. Thank you for asking. =)

My bouquet was a mixture of peonies, hydrangeas, and roses, and the handle I designed using ribbon and vintage typewriter keys (from Etsy). I just criss-crossed the ribbon and glued the keys to the points where it crossed (or rather my florist did).

Really, it was very simple. One thing to consider - the handle looks wrinkled like it does since the hydrangeas needed to be in water till the last possible second. For a smoother looking bouquet handle, I'd skip that flower. =)

Hope this helps!

Thanks Ellie, for the chuckles, inspiration and flat out good feelings I get when I read anything you write!

Sincerely,
I wish I would have been your wedding planner,
Lisa

Wedding Cake Bling

Hot Wedding Trend Alert ~
Wedding Cake Jewelry to enhance the top of your wedding cake

As a wedding guest and wedding planner I have seen some of the best and worst cake toppers. My favorite has always been fresh flowers but lately, I have been seeing a lot of elegant, classy and beautiful cake toppers like the one above. These Swarovski crystal monogram initials add a bit of sparkle with out being to much. These particular initials are so beautiful they would be a great keepsake as well. For example, the monograms can be hung on a bedroom wall or can be put into a shadow-box along with a favorite wedding photo or invitation.

Pictured above is one large initial, representing the first letter of the last name and a pair of small initials, representing the bride and grooms first initials.

I found these at  Coutour Cake Jewelry. They have many other options, take a look and see what makes your eyes sparkle!

A Welcome Bag That Inspires Hope!

Tami Eagle Bowling and Emily Michael from Marie Claire magazine and
Whitney Smith and Stephanie Ramirez from Girls For A Change.

Excert from Sephora's Beauty & the Blog...
Sephora’s latest philanthropic initiative to educate and empower women, The Sephora Project, got off to a very glamorous start at this past Tuesday night’s cocktail celebration held at the swanky (and eco-friendly) NYC Hearst Tower.

The mezzanine was filled with magazine editors and influential philanthropists who sipped on cocktails, noshed on hors d’oeuvres and teared up while listening to heart-moving speeches. Whitney Smith, CEO of Girls For A Change, expressed how the important partnership with Sephora will allow  "Girls For A Change  to reach thousands who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn how to create positive change in their communities and in their own lives." Stephanie Ramirez, a 21-year-old runaway who found Girls For A Change six years ago, said, "Girls For A Change" watched me make mistakes and guided me by teaching me how to use my voice.” Stephanie is currently studying computer science in college and also pays it forward by mentoring other girls who reach out to the organization by sharing her story and providing encouragement and support. What a beauty-full role-model!

In late September, The Sephora Project and Girls For A Change are teaming up for a national road tour that kicks off the week of September 22nd to inspire women with workshops, summits and rallies. In addition, Sephora has also created The Sephora Project tote bag available in September for $12 and 100% of the profits will be donated to Girls For A Change. Now, that’s what we call supporting girl power!

Now, that's what I call a great Welcome Bag!  It's a gift within a gift, bringing hope to girls in need!

Emergency Wedding Day Kit

My large tote & mini-emergency wedding day kit custom made by Personalized Touch

When I started in this business I read, read, read every book, magazine and blog entry on destination weddings. One of the most important tips I came across was about putting together an emergency wedding kit and I quote her advise "do not attempt to coordinate a wedding without one!". Thank goodness I took that advise, because that kit has saved the day again and again! To name a few of the "little emergencies" I have encountered - the infamous broken nail, hems that have come undone, headaches, stains, hair crisis and numerous black suits requiring lint clean-up. Well my trusty emergency kit handled every emergency, no-problem!

So here is my advise, if you have hired a planner make certain she or he has an emergency kit and go over the particulars of it with her. Remind him/her to replenish and organize it before your wedding day. If you don't have a planner make an emergency kit yourself and assign it to someone for safe keeping and accessibility. You don't want to be running around looking for nail glue (or any other item) because an acrylic nail popped off.  You want to be able to pick the nail up, go to your kit, glue it back and stay right on track with the days events.

For your convenience, here is my Emergency Wedding Day Kit must haves. Add or take away whatever you see fit:
  • stain remover
  • lint remover
  • aspirin or Tylenol
  • pantyhose, beige
  • mini pad, tampons
  • several dollars in change
  • tissues
  • bobby pins
  • travel size mouth wash
  • pens
  • gum, mints
  • nail polish, clear & a natural tone
  • nail glue
  • fabric glue
  • corsage pins
  • portable steamer
  • Band-Aids
  • Zip-Lock bags in a few sizes
  • bottled water
  • lighter
  • stapler
  • tape
  • CD of wedding music
  • cell phone
  • extension cord
  • hand lotion
  • baby powder
  • wet wipes
  • hair spray
  • magnifying glass
  • nail file
  • cotton balls
  • travel iron
  • brush & comb
  • makeup include - neutral lipstick, powder, eyeshadow & blush
  • small sewing kit
  • umbrella
  • small mirror
  • tape measure
  • scissors
  • small screwdriver set
  • florist tape and wire

Madonna's Food For Thought

"I got married for all the wrong reasons and when my husband didn't turn out to be everything I imagined him to be... I just wanted to end everything. There is no such thing as the perfect soul mate. If you meet someone and you think they are perfect, you better run as fast as you can in the other direction. Cause your soul mate is the person that pushes all you buttons, pisses you off on a regular basis and makes you face your $#!%. It's not easy having a good marriage, but I don't want easy, easy doesn't make you grow, easy doesn't make you think. I thank God everyday that I am married to a man that makes me think. That's my definition of true love!"

A quote from Madonna's Documentary "I want to tell you a secret"

Any thoughts or comments on her view of what is a soul mate?

Hard As Nails

Most brides are looking for a beautiful natural look for their nails on their wedding day. I love that look too!  It's professional & clean and does not look like a "gothic" mess should it chip. Well, I found a polish that I love, love, love and want to share with my readers! Wet 'n' Wild MegaLast Strengthening Nail Polish. It looks amazing as is or as the base for a French manicure. Your nails look totally natural with a high gloss finish that is neither to pink nor to white. Furthermore, this formula lives up to it's name "MegaLast"! I did my manicure and pedicure and it looked great for 2 weeks. And if you are having a destination wedding, your nails will be one less thing to worry about!

Sarah & Gary 5/22/08

After canceling our “big” wedding, I came up with the idea to elope in Puerto Rico…by surprising my fiancé. I do not speak Spanish so planning this started out to be an overwhelming endeavor. Luckily, I found Lisa’s website that included a PHONE NUMBER!! I was a little anxious of planning a wedding through an internet website, but Lisa was gracious enough to talk me through the process over the phone and kept in constant contact with me via email.

Upon arrival, Lisa met us at the airport and drove us to where we needed to be in order for our blood work to be completed—something mandatory on this island. The whole week Lisa was there for us to drive us again for our marriage license and calmed me down when I thought the rain would ruin the ceremony (don’t worry, she always has a Plan B!). A Christian ceremony was very important to me and my husband-to-be, so Lisa found a wonderful Christian pastor for us. I still can’t believe she pulled this all together in about 2 weeks!

I would recommend Lisa to any couple interested in marrying on this gorgeous island. In fact, you’re crazy if you’re attempting to do this on your own!

Vivian & Juan Carlos

Lisa, I can't believe we began the process of planning my May 2008 wedding in July of 2007 and now it has come and gone. It turned out to be more than I could have ever hoped for! You made the entire planning process effortless. Never in a million years would I have thought that not only was I totally ready for my wedding on my wedding day, but everything was complete 2 months prior to the date. I could have never done that without you. Your attention to detail, organization and problem solving amazes me! You kept everything on a tight timeline and every time I called or emailed you about a question or concern your famous words to me were "it's done or I got it!" Our day turned out to be stress free and full of wonderful memories (even the planning process) that will always bring big smiles to our faces.

Thank you for helping me from save the date cards to wedding dress to flowers and so on and so on! You are amazing! I would recommend you to anyone not only for a wedding but for any event.

I look forward to using your services again! Hopefully for my baby shower sometime in the near future... SHHHH don't tell Juan Carlos!

Sincerely,
Vivian

Freddy & Ma 10% Offer

Hello readers, I am so excited to offer my brides a 10% discount on one of my favorite companies... Freddy & Ma (this company came up with a concept that allows their customers to custom make a handbag of their choice). I came across their website while doing my bridesmaids gift research and found it to be loads of fun, user friendly and a great way to release some creative juices. It amazes me that anyone can go on their site custom make a handbag and have it mailed to you just like that. The choices are endless but it's really as easy as 1,2,3. Pick a handbag style, next the fabric and finally the hardware. Whaalaa... you have a custom handbag designed by you. It is a fantastic way to say a special thank you to the most important people participating in the most memorable day of your life... your wedding day. You can custom make a gorgeous Hazel clutch and present it to your maid of honor, bridesmaids, mom or mother-in-law and let them know how special they are. What I love the most is it is the kind of gift they will use for years to come.

Now go to Freddy & Ma, think of who you are designing the Hazel clutch for, pick a fabric that showcases their personality and their you have it, the perfect thank you!

When ordering (must be the Hazel clutch style and must be 5 or more) enter code 101010 and receive 10% off your order.

Thanks and have a great time
being a handbag designer!

Lisa
